WASHINGTON: State Department has stated that US had not yet been formally notified of Husain Haqqani's resignation and appointment of Sherry Rehman as Pakistan's new Ambassador to US. Addressing a press conference here, US State Department spokesman Mark Toner said the US had not yet been formally informed about Husain Haqqani's resignation and appointment of Sherry Rehman as ambassador to US. The spokesman praised Husain Haqqani for playing vital role in maintaining Pak-US ties. Toner said the US would work with new ambassador Sherry Rehman for strengthening strong Pak-US ties, adding that change of envoy would not affect relations. | ||
ISLAMABAD: Hussain Haqqani, the embattled Pakistani Ambassador to the US, has tendered his resignation and expressed readiness to face an enquiry before the top military and political leadership here at the Presidency. According to sources, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has accepted Haqqani’s resignation. Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar has said that the Prime Minister demanded resignation from the US Ambassador in order to ensure a transparent enquiry into the memogate issue. A meeting of top military and political leadership is still underway at the Presidency to grill Husain Haqqani for his alleged role in the memo issue. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani besides Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and and the ISI Chief Lt. Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha are present at the meeting. Reuters Adds: Pakistan's ambassador to the US resigned on Tuesday, days after a Pakistani-American businessman said the envoy was behind a controversial memo that accused the Pakistani military of plotting a coup in May. Envoy Husain Haqqani said on his Twitter account he had sent his resignation to the prime minister. Haqqani said he had served the country as an Ambassador for three and a half years and would “contribute to building a new Pakistan free of bigotry and intolerance.” He further said that he would focus his energies on the above mentioned. | ||

He was talking to newsmen after holding a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Mian Nawaz Sharif at Raiwind. He told media that he had handed Mian Nawaz Shrif his say on the current political situation. He said that his political line of action will come to fore in Ghotki on Nov 27. Having said that he also added that he will very soon meet with Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan. He demanded of the political leadership to hold a self-governing election commission. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan women Cricket team reached semi-final of Qualifying Round of ICC Women's World Cup after defeating Holland in a match played at Narayan Ganj Stadium in Fahullah. Pakistani captain Sana Mir won the toss and elected to bat first. Pakistan set Holland 278-run target; but, the entire Dutch team returned to pavilion at 84 runs in 37th over, a private news channel reported. Javaria Khan was the top hitter with 67 runs followed by Bisma Mahroof who scored 66 and Nida Dar 57. Captain Sana Mir hit 49 runs. Bisma Mahroof and Nida Dar also showed brilliance in bowling too and grabbed three wickets each. Pakistan with this great win, qualified for the ICC Women's World Cup being held next year. | ||
