Anti-Islamic, blasphemous pages appearing on Facebook

Islamabad - Facebook, once again, became a platform of users spreading hatred sentiments against Islam as numerous pages and pictures have been created and uploaded reportedly on the social networking site.

The management of the social networking site has dual standards for followers of different religions. Particularly, they don’t care about hatred speeches against Islam and Muslim and allow their subscribers to cross all limits of tolerance.

Facebook policy stated, “It does not tolerate hate speech. Targeting people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or disease is a serious violation of our standards and has resulted in the permanent loss of users’ account.”

However, when it comes to different religions particularly for Judaism, they don’t believe in freedom of expression as if they mentioned in their policy “We strongly believe that Facebook users have the freedom to express their opinions, and we don’t typically take down content, groups or pages that speak out against countries, religions, political entities, or ideas.”

Earlier, the Lahore High Court had imposed a complete ban on Facebook over a competition of blasphemous caricatures on May 19, 2010. And the ban was lifted after the social-networking site apologised over the hatred content.

People reacted after the ban and said that the government should block the complete site, rather than the specific pages but some people said the government has to promote awareness about the issue instead of boycotting the entire site.

Millions in electricity dues outstanding against govt departments

ISLAMABAD: The details of outstanding power dues against government departments were presented before the National Assembly on Monday.

The details presented by the Water and Power Ministry revealed that not just one but many departments were yet to clear their dues that run into the millions.

According to details, payable dues against Senate Secretariat stood at Rs49.5 million; amount payable against federal ministers and their residences at Rs8.552 million; Parliament Lodges Rs12.1 million; Pak Secretariat Rs9.423 million; Supreme Court hearing cases of power projects scams at Rs3.47 million; Election Commission of Pakistan Rs2.997 million; federal police Rs19.1 million; Intelligence Bureau Rs2.726 million; ISI Rs8.224 million; FIA Rs4.3 and; the payables against Interior Ministry were Rs1.57 million.

Saudis close PIA’s Jeddah Haji camp

KARACHI: The government of Saudi Arabia has told Pakistan International Airlines, (PIA) to wind up its Haji Camp in Jeddah without delay, Geo News reported.

This is an outcome of media’s negative reporting, Managing Director PIA Captain Nadeem Yousufzai told newsmen here in Karachi.

Capt Nadeem said this camp was a great help to pilgrims, adding it had been facilitating them in respects, but now it won’t be there anymore to offer such services, thanks to media.

FIA unlikely to appeal Moonis’ acquittal

ISLAMABAD - After the witnesses in the NICL scam case against Moonis Elahi backtracked, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is unlikely to challenge the decision of the district and session judge and appeal before the next higher court. FIA sources said the case judgment will be discussed by the top FIA officials on Monday.

“Since the witnesses have already backtracked, it is unlikely that the FIA will opt to appeal,” the source said. However, he added, the final decision will be taken after proper consultations amongst the FIA officials and the interior ministry. The NICL case repeatedly got headlines last year due to the high-profile accused Moonis Elahi, son of former Punjab chief minister Ch Pervez Elahi.

He was released on Friday after being acquitted by a Lahore district and sessions judge in the NICL scam as the prosecution failed to prove charges of money-laundering against him. The judge said it was a settled rule that statements of co-accused could not be taken as potential evidence against an accused unless independent evidence was available. Under these circumstances, the verdict said, the petitioner could not be kept behind bars and was entitled to acquittal. 

‘No deal behind Moonis’ release’

Gilani intervenes to end tussle between Law Ministry, Establishment Division

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had to finally intervene to end the protracted tussle between the Ministry of Law and the Establishment Division, giving a clear direction to the ministry to expedite the finalisation of the terms of reference (ToRs) for the proposed judicial commission to ascertain the circumstances that led to the death of former Balochistan chief minister Akbar Bugti.

The formation of the commission is one of the major steps that could persuade the militant groups to trust the government’s sincerity for a dialogue process as repeated offers made by the federal and provincial governments have not yielded any result. “The prime minister has taken strict notice of the successive media reports about the government’s inability to form the commission. During a recent meeting, the prime minister was informed that the Law Ministry was reluctant to proceed with the matter on the pretext that it needed fresh directives from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat. The argument was irrelative as parliament had already passed the Balochistan Package which included the commission to probe the killing.”

“Later, the federal cabinet meeting, held on July 13 in Quetta, also approved appointing the commission within a week’s time but the Law Ministry officials were reluctant to proceed with the issue. However, the prime minister finally directed for early formation of commission,” said a source in the Establishment Division dealing with the issue. The source said the cabinet committee on implementation of Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan Package has held two meetings.

“The committee’s first meeting held on February 8, had also discussed the matter of the formation of the commission to determine the circumstances leading to the death of Akbar Bugti”. “A follow up meeting held on July 9 and chaired by the interior minister, also discussed the finalisation of the terms of reference (TORs) for the commission. 

The meeting also had decided to take all the stakeholders into confidence over the commission including the armed forces,” the source said, adding that after July 2011, the committee stood practically dysfunctional due to the resignations by Rabbani and Babar Awan. The source said in mid-July, Gilani himself decided to look after the implementation status on the Balochistan Package.

برطانیہ سے نوادرات کی واپسی کامطالبہ

پشاور : پاکستان کے صوبے خیبرپختونخواہ کی حکومت نے قیمتی نوادرات کی واپسی کیلئے برطانیہ سے رابطہ کرلیا۔

 اطلاعات کے مطابق خیبرپختونخواہ حکومت نے برطانوی ہائی کمشنر ایڈم تھامسن سے رابطہ کرکے نوادرات کی واپسی کا مطالبہ کیا ہے۔

 اس حوالے سے تحریر کردہ خط میں موقف اختیار کیا گیا ہے کہ چند سال پہلے خیبرپختونخواہ سے چوری ہو کر برطانیہ اسمگل ہونے والے نوادرات برآمد ہونے کے باوجود واپس نہیں کئے گئے ہیں۔

خط میں کہا گیا ہے کہ ہم نے کئی بار وفاقی حکومت سے بھی رابطہ کیا ہے کہ وہ اس معاملے کو برطانیہ کے سامنے اٹھائے مگر کچھ بھی نہیں ہوسکا۔

صوبائی حکومت نےکہاہے کہ ان نوادارت کو واپس کیا جائے۔

TCC serves ‘notice of dispute’ over Reco Dic

ISLAMABAD - The Tethyan Copper Company (TCC), a joint venture of the world’s leading miners Antofagasta and Barrick Gold, has served a “notice of dispute” to the government of Balochistan over its Reko Diq Copper Gold Project giving 120 days for the settlement of the dispute otherwise the company will seek international arbitration.

Extension demanded

A statement issued by TCC on Friday said that the notice of dispute was filed on October 19, 2011 which allows a 120 day period, during which TCC and the Government of Balochistan may seek to meet and resolve the dispute. The joint venture partners had spent $200 million to buy the exploration license from Australian BHP Billiton in 2006. The company filed the notice with the provincial government after it refused to meet its executives or extend a deadline to respond to the objections that officials had raised over a mining lease being sought for the Reko Diq project. “The company sought to meet with the government of Balochistan to better understand their observations and concerns and requested an extension of an additional 60 days in order to engage with the government of Balochistan, however no extension was granted”, the statement said.

Reserves estimated at 5.9b tonnes

The copper reserves at the Reko Diq are estimated 5.9 billion tonnes, with an average copper grade of 0.41 per cent and an average gold grade of 0.22 grams a tonne. TCC plans to initially invest $3.3 billion in foreign direct investment and its investment will substantially increase during the 56 year mining operation. The project has the potential to become a model for the development of a modern mining industry in Balochistan. The statement said, “Tethyan Copper is hopeful that the Government of Balochistan will engage to meet and discuss the mining lease application. We would like to see the project move forward with the Government of Balochistan as a participating partner, for the benefit of Balochistan and Pakistan”. In February 2011, TCC filed an application for a mining lease over a mining area within the exploration license EL-5 in the Chagai district of Balochistan. The basis of the application was a feasibility study of an initial mine development at the Reko Diq project. 

Feasibility study

The feasibility study was given to the provincial government in August 2010 under an existing agreement between TCC and Balochistan, the Chagai Hills Exploration Joint Venture Agreement or CHEJVA. At the time of the completion of the feasibility study in 2010, and under the provisions of the agreement, Balochistan was entitled to become a 25 per cent equity partner in the project, enabling them to profit additionally from the mine development and operations over and above the normal royalty and taxation payments. The provincial government on November 24, 2010 decided not to become a participating party in the project. Upon receipt of the mining lease application from the company in February 2011, the provincial regulatory body responded in September 2011 with a number of observations, made in the context of an intended refusal. TCC was given 30 days to respond to the observations. The company sought meeting with the provincial government to better understand their observations and concerns and requested an extension of an additional 60 days in order to engage with the Government of Balochistan, however no extension was granted, the statement said.

Dengue continues to strike, takes 6 more lives

LAHORE - Dengue claimed five lives in Lahore while a patient passed away in Chichawatni on Saturday.

Aslam, a 50-year-old resident of Iqbal Town and 50-year-old Mubashir of Samanabad died in Ganga Ram Hospital while 30-year-old Shakil of Jaranwala passed away at Mayo Hospital Lahore. 99-year-old Rashid and Imran of Ghaziabad succumbed to dengue fever at the Services Hospital.

On the other side, 40-year-old Ghulam Murtaza fell a victim to the dengue virus in Chichawatni.

The number of dengue fever cases is also increasing in other cities including Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and Sargodha and Taxila. In Faisalabad, the number of dengue patients has reached 1,324 with registration of 15 new cases.

Moreover, the number of patients has reached 305 in Bahawalpur including six new cases. The number of dengue virus patients has rose to 232 in Sargodha and 90 in Taxila.

Illegal Detention: Woman Goes To Court Over Missing Son

KARACHI: 

A woman who says her son was picked up by the Pakistan Rangers on October 14 from his Gulshan home has gone to court.

According to Akhtari Begum, her son Asif Iqbal was at his flat at Five Star Luxury Apartments in Gulshan-e-Iqbal when he was taken away in a raid by the Rangers.

Her petition was heard by Chief Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh on Thursday.

She approached the area’s police but they denied the arrest. She has named the home secretary, chiefs of police, Gulshan town police officer and the SHO of New Town police station among others in her petition. She has asked the court to declare his alleged detention illegal and in violation of Articles 4, 9, 10 and others of the Constitution.

She also asked the court to order the registration of a case against the people who were keeping him in custody.

The next hearing will be fixed later by the office of the court.

Detained In Bagram: LHC Tells Govt To Seek Access To Pakistani Prisoners

The Lahore High Court on Thursday ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to send representatives to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan to interview seven Pakistanis allegedly detained there for several years by the US, and then report their findings to the families and the court within a month.

Though a deputy attorney general told the court that the government won’t get permission” to visit Bagram, the judge insisted that it try harder to recover its citizens.

“How can you say that? Of course the Pakistan government can get access if it wants. I’m passing an order in any case, and if you don’t comply, this will go to the Supreme Court,” said Justice Khalid Mahmood.

The deputy attorney general said the government was doing all it could to access the prisoners. “Writing letters is not enough. You are supposed to do a lot more than that for Pakistani citizens,” Justice Mahmood said.

The deputy attorney general said the seven men had been detained as they had crossed over into Afghanistan to fight US forces. The judge asked him to obtain information about their arrests and the allegations against them so the families could pursue their cases with US authorities.

Barrister Sara Belal, representing Sultana Noon of Reprieve in Pakistan, a UK-based NGO that works for prisoners’ rights, submitted that the seven Pakistanis had been detained at Bagram without charge or trial since 2003. She said they had been abducted from Pakistani territory.

She said that Awwal Khan, Hamidullah Khan, Abdul Haleem Saifullah, Fazal Karim, Amal Khan, Iftikhar Ahmad and Younas Rehmatullah had not been allowed access to lawyers or informed of the evidence against them. Belal said that some of the prisoners had been abused. One prisoner was seized two years ago at the age of 14. Another was not permitted to speak to his family for six years,” she added.

Khosa Accuses Govt Of Torturing Ayesha Malik

Governor Sardar Latif Khosa cited the police treatment of Ayesha Malik, daughter of PML-Q leader Malik Ahad, as an example of torture during his speech at the inaugural session on Thursday of a three-day conference about the use of torture in the criminal justice system.

The governor said there were many forms of torture and accused the provincial government of inflicting one form on Ayesha Malik, who says she has been victimised by the police to stop her talking about a ‘secret marriage’ to MNA Hamza Shahbaz, son of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Khosa said that a false case of kidnapping for ransom had been registered against Malik while her complaint about mistreatment was not entertained.

He said that members of the law enforcement agencies needed to change their attitudes and mindsets concerning fundamental rights. He said the government gave top priority to the eradication of torture and “all other inhumane and degrading treatment”.

He said that the federal government had taken important steps to improve the judicial system by introducing three new fundamental rights in the Constitution via the 18th Amendment: the right to education, the right to information and the right to a fair trial. Khosa said giving people the right to a fair trial required improvements in all aspects of the justice system, particularly access to adequate legal representation for the poor.

Later speaking to reporters, Khosa said the Punjab government was guilty of billions of rupees worth of corruption in the Ashiyana, Yellow Cab, Danish Schools and Sasti Roti schemes. He said the people of Punjab felt unsafe because of a high crime rate.

The conference on torture was organised by the Democratic Commission for Human Development and the first day’s proceedings were held at Pearl Continental.

Clinton warns Pakistan over border fighters

Hillary Clinton, on a visit to Islamabad, has given warning that Pakistan must crack down on anti-American fighters or face more unilateral action by the US.

Ties between the US and the South Asian nation have soured in recent months. However, despite the apparent frustrations, the two countries could not give up their relationship, the US secretary of state said on Friday.

"There is frustration on both sides, which I recognise," Clinton said, calling for "give and take" from both sides.

"We are going to stay the course, and do everything we can to try to overcome the difficulties that we have faced together. Because we both have too much at stake. We cannot walk away."

Clinton said the US expected Pakistan to deny Afghan Taliban-linked fighters safe havens and saw a "strong" Pakistan

as critical to stability in the region.

"We look to Pakistan to take strong steps to deny Afghan insurgents safehavens and to encourage the Taliban to enter negotiations in good faith," she said.

"Now we have to turn our attention here on the Pakistani Taliban, the Afghan Taliban, Haqqani and other terrorist groups and try to get them into a peace process but, if that failed, prevent them from committing more violence and murdering more innocent people."

Clinton delivered a similarly stern message to Yousuf Raza Gilani, the Pakistani prime minister, during a meeting on Thursday that involved military, intelligence and civilian leaders from both sides.

For his part, Gilani urged Clinton to "give peace a chance" as envisaged in a Pakistani conference last month that opposed increasing US pressure for action against the Haqqani group.

Al-Shabab claims peacekeepers' killings

Somalia's al-Shabab fighters have put on display the dead bodies of more than 70 African Union peacekeepers they say they killed in the country's capital, Mogadishu.

The troops, reportedly Burundian soldiers, were killed on Thursday following a battle with al-Shabab, according to Abu Omar, a commander of the anti-government Islamist group.

"We can confirm that more than 150 Burundian soldiers were killed in the battle. We can confirm to you that 76 of the bodies are currently in our custody and the battle lasted for about six hours," he told Al Jazeera.

Displaying the bodies in the dust to reporters, Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage, an al-Shabab spokesman, said: "We have killed more than 70 of the enemy soldiers today ... We have inflicted heavy losses on them and you can see their dead bodies."

The bodies were put on display in the al-Shabab-controlled El-Maan area, 18km from Mogadishu.

Witnesses say the bodies were not Somalis and most were dressed in military uniforms.

"I have seen the largest number of soldiers killed in a battle, I have counted 63 Burundian soldiers, all of them dead, the Shabab brought them on trucks to Alamada," Hasan Yunus, a witness, said.

"Some of the dead bodies were dragged along by angry residents."

Photographs showed long lines of at least 20 bodies dressed in military uniform laid out in the sand, surrounded by a large crowd with their faces covered.

پاکستان، سندھ کی اکثر ماتحت عدالتیں غیر فعال

کراچی : پاکستان میں آزاد عدلیہ ہونے کے باوجود لوگوں کو انصاف حاصل کرنے میں مشکلات کا سامنا ہے  اور  آبادی کے لحاظ سے ملک کے دوسرے بڑے صوبہ سندھ میں 88 ماتحت عدالتیں غیر فعال ہونے کی وجہ سے لاکھوں مقدمات زیر التوا ہیں۔

ذرائع کے مطابق صوبہ سندھ کے 23 اضلاع میں437 ڈسٹرکٹ عدالتیں  ہیں جن میں  سے88 عدالتوں کے اندر ججز نہ ہونے کی وجہ سے  وہ غیر فعال ہوچکی ہیں جب کہ صوبہ بھر میں  10 لاکھ 6 ہزار 253 مقدمات زیر التوا ہیں۔

دی نیوز ٹرائب کی تحقیقاتی رپورٹ کے مطابق  صوبہ سندھ کے دارالحکومت اور ملک کے سب سے بڑے شہر کراچی میں بھی ماتحت عدالتیں غیر فعال ہیں، کراچی  کے ضلع ملیر کی 13 عدالتوں میں سے 2 ،کراچی جنوبی کی 35 عدالتوں میں سے 6، کراچی سینٹرل کی 26 عدالتوں میں سے 2 جب کہ کراچی شرقی کی 36 عدالتوں میں سے 5 عدالتیں غیر فعال ہیں۔

سندھ بھر کی 437 ماتحت عدالتوں میں 1 ڈسٹرکٹ سیشن جج، 2 ایڈیشنل ڈسٹرکٹ جج اور 85 جوڈیشل مجسٹریٹ مقرر نہ ہونے سے عدالتیں غیر فعال ہوگئی ہیں اور عوام کو انصاف کی فراہمی میں سخت مشکلات کا سامنا ہے، صوبہ بھر میں انسداد دہشگردی کی خصوصی عدالتوں میں چیف جسٹس آف پاکستان جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری کے حکم  کے بعد ججز کی مقرری کی گئی ہے۔

دستیاب رپورٹس کے مطابق صوبہ سندھ کے ضلع شکارپور کی 20 عدالتوں میں سے 8، قمر شہدادکوٹ کی 13 میں سے 4، کشمور کندھ کوٹ کی 10میں سے 2، جیکب آباد کی 10 میں سے 3، لاڑکانہ کی 22 میں سے 4، سکھر کی 16 میں سے 2، گھوٹکی کی 16 میں سے3 جب کہ خیرپور کی 26 ماتحت عدالتوں میں سے 9 عدالتیں غیر فعال ہیں۔

عدالتی رپورٹ کےمطابق  ضلع دادو کی 19 عدالتوں میں سے 5، بدین کی 13 میں سے 3، ٹھٹہ کی 13 میں سے 3، تھرپارکر مٹھی کی 9 میں سے 3، جامشورو کی 11 میں سے 2، بینظیر آباد کی 14 میں سے 2، میرپور خاص کی 13 میں سے 3، نوشہروفیروز کی 18 میں سے 7جب کہ ضلع سانگھڑ کی 17 میں سے 3 عدالتیں غیر فعال ہیں۔

ایک رپورٹ کے مطابق ستمبر تک صوبہ بھر کی ماتحت عدالتوں میں10 لاکھ 6 ہزار 235 مقدمات زیر التوا تھے جس میں سے 6 ہزار سے زائد  کرمنل، 34 ہزار977 سول جب کہ11 ہزار 231 فیملی مقدمات تھے، ستمبر تک سندھ بھر کی ماتحت عدالتوں نے 13 ہزار 816 کرمنل،2 ہزار 903 سول اور 2 ہزار 81 فیملی مقدمات نمٹائے۔

پاکستان میں بیروزگاری اور غربت بڑھنے کی وجہ سے جرائم میں تیزی سے اضافہ ہو رہا ہے جب کہ ملک میں آزاد عدلیہ ہونے کے باوجود لوگوں کو انصاف کی فراہمی میں سخت مشکلات درپیش ہیں ، آبادی کے لحاظ سے دوسرے بڑے صوبہ سندھ میں ماتحت عدالتوں کے اندر ججز کی کمی  کے باعث 88 عدالتیں غیر فعال ہیں جس کی وجہ سے لاکھوں لوگ انصاف کی فراہمی سے محروم ہیں۔

چین کشمیرپالیسی تبدیل کرے،بھارت

نئی دہلی : بھارت نے چین کی طرف سے جموں وکشمیر کے شہریوں کو علیحدہ کاغذ پر ویزا فراہم کرنے کےمعاملے پر تشویش کا اظہار کرتے ہوئے بیجنگ سے مطالبہ کیا ہے کہ وہ اس اقدام کو ترک کریں اور ایک دوسرے کے تعلقات کی احساسیت کو مدنظر رکھا جائے۔

بھارتی ذرائع ابلاغ کے مطابق بھارتی دفتر خارجہ کے ترجمان نے چین کی طرف سے جموں وکشمیر سے تعلق رکھنے والے شہریوں کو الگ کاغذ پر ویزہ فراہم کرنے کے معاملے پر تشویش کااظہار کرتے ہوئے کہا ہے کہ بیجنگ کو کشمیر کے معاملے پر اس طرح بھارتی خدشات کا احترام کرنا چاہیے جس طرح بھارت تائیوان اور تبت کے حوالے سے چین کے خدشات کا احترام کرتا ہے۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ بھارت چین تعلقات کو ایک دوسرے کی احساسیت کا خیال رکھتے ہوئے مزید مضبوط بنایا جاسکتا ہے اور ہمارا اس حوالے سے مؤقف واضح ہے جب کہ چین کو بھی یہ معلوم ہونا چاہیے کہ ویزہ کے معاملے پر بھارت کی کیا پوزیشن ہے۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم کچھ کشمیری شہریوں کو علیحدہ کاغذ پر ویزہ دینے کی اس پالیسی کو تسلیم نہیں کرتے جموں وکشمیر کے شہری بھارت کے زیر کنٹرول کشمیر کے باشندے ہیں اور چین کی ویزا پالیسی تمام شہریوں کے لیے ایک جیسی ہونی چاہیے، اس دوران چین نے بھارت سے کشمیر کے حوالے سے اپنے کا مؤقف کا ایک بار پھر اعادہ کرتے ہوئے کہا ہے کہ چین کا یہ مؤقف برقرار ہے کہ کشمیر ایک متنازعہ خطہ ہے بھارت اور پاکستان اس مسئلے کو بات چیت اور افہام وتفہیم سے حل کریں اس مسئلے پر بیجنگ کے نقطہ نظر میں کسی قسم کی کوئی تبدیلی نہیں آئی ہے۔

ایرانی قدس فورس سےخطرہ،امریکا

واشنگٹن : اوباما انتظامیہ نے خدشہ ظاہر کیا ہے کہ ایران کی قدس فورس سعودی سفیر کے قتل جیسے دیگر منصوبے بھی بناسکتی ہے۔

میڈیا رپورٹس کے مطابق 3امریکی عہدیداروں نے کہا کہ امریکا کو خدشہ ہے کہ قدس فورس سعودی سفیر کے قتل کے منصوبے کی طرح دیگر بین لاقوامی منصوبے بھی بناسکتی ہے۔

ایک عہدیدار کا کہنا ہے کہ ایران کی اسلامی انقلاب کی فوج قدس نہ صرف عراق بلکہ دنیا بھر میں رہنما کارروائیاں جاری رکھے ہوئے ہے اور اس نے عراق افغانستان اور دنیا بھر میں امریکی فورسز پر پراکسی حملے کراکے قدس فورس جس کی ایران میں طاقت میں اضافہ ہو رہا ہے وہ لبنان خلیج ،شام اور ہر جگہ سرگرم ہے۔
