Success of exports depends on conformance to int’l standards: PM


ISLAMABAD, Oct 14: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has urged the country’s industrial and services sectors to focus on conforming to international standards to achieve high exports and economic growth. We are living in an era where success of exports depends on the conformance to International Standards because it plays a critical role in promoting and creating consumer confidence in products and thereby provides much needed stimulus for growth of our economy.”

“In the global markets productivity alongwith conformance to International Standards determine and gives a competitive edge to the products”, the Prime Minister said in his message on the occasion of World Standards Day being observed on October 14.
The Prime Minister said, “I am pleased to know that Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) has joined international community (International Organization for Standardization, International Electro Technical Commission and International Organization on Legal Metrology) to commemorate the International Standards Day on 14th October, 2011.”
“This year’s theme “International Standards-Creating Confidence Globally” is thought provoking and provides an opportunity to re-assess the competitiveness of our products in International markets,” he added.
The Prime Minister said the Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority has developed a wide range of standards for products, services, health, safety and environment etc.
“These standards have been formulated in the light of parameters set by International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electro Technical Commission, and International Organization on Legal Metrology (OIML),” he added.
The Prime Minister said, “the standards bring together experience of experts. They also play a significant role in describing its usefulness in a more appropriate manner.”
