President, PM discuss overall political situation


ISLAMABAD - A group of selected federal ministers and senior leadership of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party called on President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday to discuss the overall political situation with particular reference to recent developments.
Briefing about the meeting, Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar said that overall political situation with particular reference to recent developments was discussed during the meeting.
The meeting noted that NRO related cases would come up for hearing before the Supreme Court on 21 November.
The meeting vowed to vigorously defend the sanctity of the graves of Begum Nusrat Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto. It expressed the hope that the cry for justice, rising from the grave of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in Garhi Khuda Baksh, would also attract the attention of the independent judiciary.
The meeting noted that Ambassador Hussain Haqqani had been called to Islamabad to give his view point to the country’s leadership on the controversial memo. It observed that natural justice demanded that the ambassador was given a fair opportunity to give his version of the controversy.
Situation in Sindh also came under discussion and the meeting reiterated that the policy of reconciliation will continue.
The meeting reposed full confidence in the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusaf Raza Gilani.
The meeting, chaired by Asif Ali Zardari and Yousaf Raza Gilani, was attended by Senator Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Ahmed Mukhtar, Rehman Malik, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Makhdoom Shahabuddin, Syed Naveed Qamar, Babar Awan, Senator Jahangir Badar, Senator Faisal Raza Abidi, Senator Sardar Ali Khan, Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Raja Parvez Ashraf, Rukhsana Bangash, Fouzia Wahab, Fouzia Habib and Farhatullah Babar.
