Haqqani resigns, ready to face inquiry

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's Ambassador in US Husain Haqqani has resigned as Ambassador, according to a private television channel.
Haqqani said that he has requested Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani to accept his resignation. He added that he is ready to face any inquiry on the matter.
According to sources, resignations of Ambassador has been accepted.
Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari chaired an unofficial meeting in his residential compound within the Presidency. Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gailnai, Chief of Army Staff Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, and Director General Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt General Ahmed Shuja Pasha were also present in the meeting that gave personal hearing to Haqqani.
Presidential spokesperson Farhatuallah Babar denied any official meeting at the Presidency over the issue of secret memo scam so far surrounding Haqqani.
According to well-placed sources, Haqqani offered his resignation before any proceedings. On the other hand, the President asked him to answer the questions of the high profile meeting before offering anything including resignation. 
The sources told that Haqqani answered a plethora of questions raised by almost all of the participants mostly from the military leadership. In nutshell he denied having any link to the secret memo that American businessman of Pakistani origin Mansoor Ijaz had claimed Haqqani wrote to former US military chief Mike Mullen against army and ISI, the sources maintained.
Eventually, the sources said, the meeting under the President decided to appoint a Parliamentary Committee to probe the entire issue and investigate Mr Haqqani to the logical conclusion. The meeting empowered Yusuf Raza Gilani as being the Leader of the House in the National Assembly to appoint the Parliamentary Committee to probe the matter. 
According to the sources, it was also decided during the meeting that Haqqani’s resignation, and his belongings including laptop, blackberry and other personal equipments and instruments would also be handed over to the Committee. The committee would have the mandate to probe, formulate findings and give final recommendations about the fate of Haqqani’s resignation, the sources added.
