Nawaz calls for probe into memo issue

LAHORE - PML-N president Mian Nawaz Sharif has called for constitution of a committee comprising parliamentarians, lawyers and judges to probe into Mike Mullen letter issue.

“Hussain Haqqani’s letter issue is a sensitive matter and it can not be overlooked easily. This is question of national security and sovereignty of Pakistan. No compromise is acceptable on sovereignty of the country. I kept dignity and honour of the country supreme during my tenure of premiership and did not allow sovereignty of the country to be violated by any one. Country’s security is put at stake. People of Pakistan have blind faith on members of senate and national assembly. A committee representing parliamentarians, lawyers and judges be constituted to probe into this matter. This committee be allowed 15 days to finalize its inquiry. The report be made public within this stipulated period. If government does not do so then there is some thing wrong in the matter”, he said this while talking to media men here Friday.
Abbotabad incident was attack on national security and nation had not been told what had been done by the commission constituted to investigate this matter and where had gone its report, he regretted.
About Hamza Shahbaz and Ayela Malik case he said PML-N reviews such matters internally. There are so many such examples before our nation that PML-N held its workers accountable. Membership of Haji Pervez was cancelled on the report of inquiry committee, he pointed out. Action was also taken against MPA Shumaila Rana when case came to light against her, he told. Only PML-N is a party which has held its workers accountable, he added.
“I will hold public meeting in Faisalabad at every cost. One meeting has taken place with Shah Mehmood Qureshi earlier. It is our desire that he should join PML-N. Another meeting will be held with him on November, 22 to discuss this matter. PML-N will not support any illegal step. Nor we will back any unconstitutional step or establishment”, he observed.
Pakistan is facing the prevalent adverse situation due to such unconstitutional steps, he said adding we should learn lesson from it. How long we would continue to play into the hands of those who dismembered Pakistan, triggered wars between Pakistan and India, took the decision without taking the nation into confidence and accepted all US demands following 9/11 incident, he inquired.
